The Bull Who Had the Last Word
2. FULL STORY β PART 1
A husband and wife were spending a pleasant afternoon at a country fair, wandering between food stands, craft booths, and rows of farm animals.
Eventually, they reached the cattle section.
The wife enjoyed looking at the enormous bulls and cows, while her husband mostly followed along, happy to let her lead the way.
At the first stall, they stopped to read a sign describing an impressive bull.
The wife smiled when she saw the number.
βFifty times last year,β she said, giving her husband a playful look. βNot bad.β
Her husband simply smiled and kept walking.
A few stalls later, they came across another bull. Its sign claimed an even more impressive number.
The wife raised her eyebrows.
βWow. One hundred fifty times!β
She laughed and nudged her husband.
βThatβs more than twice a week. You could learn something from these animals.β
Her husband shook his head, amused.
βLetβs keep looking.β

They continued down the row until they reached the final stall.
There stood an enormous bull, looking completely calm and proud of himself.
The wife glanced at the sign and immediately burst out laughing.
βThree hundred sixty-five!β
She turned toward her husband with a grin.
βThat means once every single day of the year!β
Her husband looked at the sign, then at his wife.
She folded her arms and gave him a teasing smile.
βYou really should learn something from this one.β
For a moment, her husband said nothing.
He simply stood there, studying the bull as though he were seriously considering the lesson she had just proposed.
The wife waited for him to answer.
Finally, he smiled.

βI suppose you have a point,β he said.
His wife looked pleased with herself.
Then he added calmly, βBut before you decide that I’m the one who needs to learn something, why don’t you ask the farmer one question?β
βWhat question?β
He pointed toward the sign.
βAsk whether it was the same cow every time.β
The wife stared at him for a second.
Then she realized exactly what he meant.
Her confident smile disappeared.
Her husband simply continued walking toward the next stall, wearing the satisfied expression of a man who had finally found the perfect comeback.
Behind him, his wife shook her head and laughed.
βOkay,β she called after him. βYou got me.β
5. ENDING
They walked away from the cattle section together, both laughing.
The wife had started the afternoon trying to teach her husband a lesson.
Instead, she had learned that sometimes the quickest comeback is the one you never see coming.
And judging by her husband’s grin, he was going to enjoy that victory for a very long time.Β
