When God Gives the Order
1. Title
When God Gives the Order
2. FULL STORY — PART 1
The woman had reached a point in her life where she no longer knew where her next meal would come from.
She lived alone in a small, modest home and struggled to make ends meet. Bills had piled up, the kitchen cupboards were nearly empty, and there was very little money left for groceries.
One afternoon, she heard a local radio program inviting people to call in with their problems.
After hesitating for several minutes, she finally picked up the phone.
Her voice trembled as she explained her situation.
“I don’t know what else to do,” she said. “I have almost nothing left.
I’m asking God to help me somehow. I know He hasn’t forgotten me.”
The radio host listened kindly, but before he could respond, another listener heard the conversation.
He was a wealthy man who had everything money could buy.
But there was one thing he didn’t have—faith.
He was an outspoken atheist, and he couldn’t resist the opportunity to make fun of the woman.
“That is ridiculous,” he told someone nearby. “She actually believes God is going to send her groceries?”
An idea suddenly occurred to him.
He decided to prove what he thought was the foolishness of her faith.
“I’ll show her,” he said with a smug smile.
He grabbed his wallet, went to a large grocery store, and bought an enormous amount of food.
He filled his shopping cart with everything he could think of—bags of rice, canned goods, bread, vegetables, milk, cereal, meat, and other necessities.
Then he called his secretary.
“I need you to deliver all of this to an address I’m going to give you.”
The secretary looked surprised by the enormous grocery order.
“Of course. But what should I tell the woman when she asks where it came from?”
The wealthy man smiled.
“That’s the important part,” he said.
“Tell her it came from the devil.”
His secretary paused, clearly uncomfortable with the request.
But the man insisted.
“I want her to know that her God didn’t answer her. I did.”
The groceries were loaded into the vehicle, and the secretary drove to the woman’s home.
Neither of them knew that the joke the wealthy man had planned was about to become something entirely different.
3. FULL STORY — PART 2
When the secretary arrived, she knocked on the woman’s door.
The woman opened it cautiously.
At first, she seemed confused.
Then she looked past the secretary and saw the enormous collection of groceries.
Her eyes widened.
“Oh my goodness…”
The secretary began carrying the bags inside.
One bag after another.
The woman’s small kitchen quickly filled with food.
There was enough to last her for quite some time.
She couldn’t stop smiling.
She thanked the secretary repeatedly, her eyes shining with relief.
“I don’t know how to thank you,” she said. “This is more than I could have ever imagined.”
She began putting everything away, carefully organizing the groceries in her cabinets and refrigerator.
For the first time in a long while, she didn’t have to worry about what she would eat tomorrow.
She didn’t have to wonder whether she could afford the next loaf of bread.
She simply stood in her kitchen and felt grateful.
The secretary watched her quietly.
There was something about the woman’s happiness that made her curious.
After everything had been carried inside, the secretary finally asked,
“Don’t you want to know who sent all of this?”
The woman paused.
She turned around and smiled.
The secretary expected her to ask for a name.
Instead, the woman calmly returned to putting away the groceries.
“Oh, there’s no need.”
The secretary looked puzzled.
“No need?”
The woman nodded.
She had no idea about the wealthy man’s plan.
She didn’t know that someone had wanted to embarrass her.
She didn’t know that the groceries had been purchased as a joke.
And she certainly didn’t know what the secretary had been instructed to say.
But she had something the wealthy man had underestimated.
Faith.
4. FULL STORY — PART 3
The secretary couldn’t help asking again.
“But aren’t you curious who sent all this food?”
The woman looked at her.
Her smile grew even warmer.
“I already know.”
The secretary frowned.
“How?”
The woman gently placed another bag of groceries on the counter.
“Because I asked God for help.”
The secretary remained silent.
The woman continued.
“I didn’t tell God how He had to answer me. I only asked Him to provide what I needed.”
She looked around her kitchen.
“Maybe He sent someone to the store. Maybe He put it on someone’s heart to help me. I don’t know.”
Then she smiled.
“But I know this much: God answered.”
The secretary suddenly felt uncomfortable.
She remembered the wealthy man’s exact instructions.
She was supposed to tell the woman that the groceries had come from the devil.
Finally, she decided there was no reason to hide it.
“Actually,” she said quietly, “I was told to tell you something.”
The woman looked at her.
The secretary took a breath.
“The man who bought these groceries told me that if you asked who sent them, I should tell you they came from the devil.”
For a moment, the kitchen was silent.
The secretary expected the woman’s expression to change.
Instead, the woman simply smiled.
She looked at the groceries surrounding her and then back at the secretary.
“Oh,” she said.
Then she gave a little laugh.
“That doesn’t bother me at all.”
The secretary stared at her.
“Why not?”
The woman answered with complete confidence.
“Because when God gives an order, even the devil has to obey.”
The secretary didn’t know what to say.
The wealthy atheist had intended to mock her faith.
Instead, his own money had become the answer to the prayer he had mocked.
He thought he was proving that God didn’t exist.
But without realizing it, he had become the very instrument through which the woman received the help she had asked God for.
And the woman never needed to know the wealthy man’s name.
She only needed to know that she wasn’t forgotten.
5. ENDING
The woman continued putting away the groceries with a peaceful smile.
She hadn’t won an argument.
She hadn’t demanded an explanation.
She simply believed that help had arrived when she needed it most.
And somewhere, the wealthy man who had arranged the entire thing as a cruel joke was left with a lesson he never expected.
Sometimes people think they are working against someone’s faith when, without realizing it, they are helping fulfill the very prayer they mocked.
The woman had asked God for help.
And help had come.
Not in the way she expected.
Not through the person she imagined.
But it came.
Because when God gives the order, even those who don’t believe may unknowingly become part of the answer.
