Jimmy’s $100 Tattoo

2. FULL STORY — PART 1

Jimmy arrived home later than usual one evening, wearing the kind of grin that immediately made Maggie suspicious.

She looked up from the kitchen table.

“Where on earth have you been?”

Jimmy casually took off his jacket.

“I went out and got a tattoo.”

Maggie blinked.

“A tattoo? Since when do you get tattoos?”

Jimmy smiled proudly. “Tonight, apparently.”

She folded her arms. “And what did you get?”

Jimmy leaned closer and revealed that he had gotten a tattoo of a $100 bill in a very private place.

Maggie stared at him in disbelief.

“You actually did that?”

Jimmy nodded.

Maggie shook her head.

“Jimmy, what on earth were you thinking? You’re an accountant! Why would you get a hundred-dollar bill tattooed there?”

Jimmy seemed completely satisfied with his decision.

“Well,” he said, counting his reasons on his fingers, “there are several advantages.”

Maggie sighed. “Oh, I’m sure there are.”

“First,” Jimmy said, “I enjoy watching my money grow.”

Maggie raised an eyebrow.

“Second, every now and then, I like playing with my money.”

She covered her face with one hand.

“Jimmy…”

“Third,” he continued, completely serious, “I love the feeling of money in my hands.”

Maggie stared at him for a moment, trying desperately not to laugh.

Jimmy saved his final reason for last.

“And finally,” he said with a grin, “instead of going shopping, you can just stay home and enjoy having a hundred bucks whenever you want.”

There was a long silence.

Maggie looked at Jimmy.

Jimmy looked at Maggie.

Then Maggie burst out laughing.

“You spent real money just to put a picture of money on yourself?”

Jimmy nodded proudly.

“I’m an accountant. I believe in investing.”

Maggie shook her head.

“That may be the strangest financial decision you’ve ever made.”

Jimmy smiled.

“Maybe. But at least it’s a hundred-dollar investment I’ll never lose.”

5. ENDING

Maggie laughed as she walked away.

“You know what, Jimmy? For once, I’m not even going to ask how much the tattoo cost.”

Jimmy smiled.

“Good. Because I’d hate for you to think I made a bad investment.”

Maggie stopped at the doorway and looked back.

“Just promise me one thing.”

“What?”

“Next time you get financial advice, talk to your accountant first.”

Jimmy grinned.

“Unfortunately, Maggie… I am the accountant.

And that was the moment Maggie realized she had married a man who could somehow turn even a tattoo into an accounting joke.
