1. Title

The $500 Taxi Ride That Went Completely Wrong

2. FULL STORY — PART 1

It was supposed to be an ordinary evening.

A husband was riding alone in the back of a taxi when he suddenly spotted something that made his heart sink. Through the taxi window, he saw his wife walking toward the entrance of a hotel.

She wasn’t alone.

A man was walking beside her.

The husband stared for a moment, hoping he had made a mistake. Maybe it wasn’t his wife. Maybe there was some perfectly innocent explanation.

But the closer he looked, the more certain he became.

“That’s my wife,” he muttered.

The taxi driver glanced at him through the rearview mirror.

“Everything okay?”

The husband leaned forward.

“Do you want to earn $500 right away?”

The driver’s eyes widened.

“Five hundred dollars? Sure! What do I have to do?”

The husband pointed toward the hotel.

“See that woman going inside with that man? That’s my wife. Go in there, bring her out, and get her into this taxi. Here’s a picture so you know exactly who she is.”

The driver looked at the picture, then toward the hotel.

“No problem.”

He jumped out of the taxi and hurried toward the entrance.

The husband sat back, imagining the confrontation that was about to happen.

He was furious.

He was hurt.

And most of all, he wanted answers.

A few minutes later, there was a commotion near the hotel entrance.

The driver appeared, pulling a woman toward the taxi.

The husband watched in disbelief as the driver opened the door and ushered the woman inside.

“There!” the driver said proudly. “Job done!”

The husband immediately looked at the woman.

Then he looked at the driver.

Then back at the woman.

His face went completely blank.

“This… isn’t my wife.”

The driver froze.

“What?”

The husband pointed at the woman sitting in the taxi.

“That isn’t my wife!”

The driver stared at her.

The woman stared back at him.

For a few seconds, nobody said a word.

Then the driver suddenly looked embarrassed.

“Oh…”

The husband was already getting angry.

“I gave you a picture!”

“I know!” the driver protested. “I thought I had the right woman!”

The husband shook his head.

“How could you possibly get this wrong?”

The driver glanced at the woman again.

Then something seemed to click in his mind.

He leaned toward the husband and whispered:

“Wait a minute…”

He suddenly smiled.

“No, you’re right. This isn’t your wife.”

The husband sighed with relief.

“Exactly. So where is my wife?”

The driver casually opened the taxi door, looked at the woman, and said:

“This one is mine.”

The husband stared at him.

“What?”

The driver nodded toward the woman.

“Hold her for me.”

The husband’s mouth dropped open.

“What are you talking about?”

The driver straightened his jacket, looking completely determined.

“I came here thinking I was getting your wife.”

He pointed toward the hotel.

“But apparently I found my wife instead.”

The husband looked from the driver to the woman.

The woman crossed her arms.

The driver took a deep breath.

“Now you stay here with her.”

He pointed at the hotel.

“I’m going back in for yours.”

The husband couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“You’re going back?”

The driver nodded confidently.

“Of course. I still have a job to finish.”

The husband sat there speechless.

A few minutes earlier, he had been convinced he was about to uncover a terrible betrayal.

Now somehow he was sitting in a taxi with the taxi driver’s wife while the driver was heading back toward the hotel to find his.

The woman beside him looked equally confused.

“Who are you?” she asked.

The husband sighed.

“Honestly? At this point, I don’t even know.”

She frowned.

“My husband told me he was working tonight.”

The husband slowly turned toward her.

“He was.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“Then why am I sitting in his taxi?”

The husband had no answer.

Across the street, the driver disappeared through the hotel entrance.

The husband stared after him.

“This evening has officially gotten out of control.”

The woman nodded.

“I agree.”

They sat quietly for a moment.

Then she asked, “So you really thought the woman inside was your wife?”

“Yes.”

“And you paid my husband $500 to get her?”

“Yes.”

She thought about that.

“Did you at least show him a good picture?”

The husband held up his phone.

She looked at it.

Then she burst out laughing.

The husband looked confused.

“What?”

She pointed at the picture.

“That isn’t your wife.”

He stared at the screen.

Then his eyes widened.

He had accidentally sent the driver a picture of a completely different woman from his phone.

He covered his face with his hands.

“So I gave him the wrong picture…”

The woman laughed even harder.

“And my husband went into a hotel looking for a woman he had never seen before?”

The husband nodded slowly.

“Apparently.”

They both sat there in stunned silence.

Then the woman shook her head.

“You know what?”

“What?”

“I think you two deserve each other.”

Just then, the taxi driver’s voice could be heard from across the street.

“HEY!”

They both turned toward the hotel.

The driver was running back toward the taxi.

And judging by his expression, he had just discovered something else.

5. ENDING

The driver reached the taxi, breathing heavily.

“I found her!”

The husband jumped up.

“Your wife?”

“No!”

The driver pointed toward the hotel.

“Your wife!”

The husband stared at him.

“My wife?”

“Yes!”

The driver nodded proudly.

“She was standing in the lobby the whole time.”

The husband slowly looked at his phone.

Then at the taxi driver.

Then at the driver’s wife.

Then back toward the hotel.

“So… whose wife did you originally bring out?”

Everyone looked at each other.

The driver shrugged.

“I have no idea.”

The husband sighed.

“Well, I think we’ve all learned an important lesson tonight.”

The driver’s wife folded her arms.

“What lesson?”

The husband looked at the driver.

“Never trust a man who offers you $500 without explaining the entire plan.”

The driver nodded thoughtfully.

“And never trust a husband who can’t even send you the right picture.”

The driver’s wife laughed.

The husband shook his head.

And the taxi driver?

He simply looked at the $500 in his hand and muttered:

“Still worth it.”
