1. Title

Grandma Thought Grandpa Was Cheating With Another Woman

2. FULL STORY — PART 1

It was exactly midnight when my phone started ringing.

I almost ignored it.

Who calls someone at midnight unless something is wrong?

When I saw Grandma’s name on the screen, I immediately answered.

“Grandma? What happened?”

Her voice came through in a frantic whisper.

“Your grandpa is CHEATING!”

I sat straight up in bed.

“What?! Grandma, are you sure?!”

“YES!” she insisted. “I heard him!”

My heart started racing. Grandpa had always been the calm, dependable one in the family.

He and Grandma had been married for decades, and as far as I knew, they were inseparable.

“What did you hear?” I asked.

Grandma took a deep breath.

“I heard him yelling at another woman!”

I blinked.

“Another woman?”

“Yes!”

“Okay… what was her name?”

There was a long silence on the phone.

Then Grandma whispered:

“Alexa.”

I frowned.

“Alexa?”

“Yes. Alexa!”

I had absolutely no idea what was going on.

“Grandma, what exactly did Grandpa say?”

She lowered her voice as if she were revealing a family secret.

“He kept saying things like, ‘Alexa, turn off the lights!’”

I waited.

“And then,” she continued, “he said, ‘Alexa, play some music!’”

I rubbed my forehead.

“And?”

“He even asked her, ‘Alexa, what time is it?’”

I finally understood.

“Grandma…”

“What?”

“That’s not another woman.”

There was silence.

3. FULL STORY — PART 2

Grandma didn’t answer immediately.

I could practically hear her trying to process what I’d just said.

“What do you mean?” she finally asked.

“Alexa is a voice assistant.”

“A what?”

“Alexa. The device. The little speaker in the house.”

Grandma sounded suspicious.

“Then why does she have a woman’s name?”

“Because… that’s just what it’s called.”

Grandma wasn’t convinced.

“So you’re telling me there is a woman named Alexa living in the house?”

“No!”

“Then where is she?”

“She isn’t a real woman, Grandma.”

Another pause.

“So she’s hiding?”

I covered my face with my hand.

“No, Grandma. Alexa is an artificial intelligence voice assistant. Grandpa is talking to a machine.”

Grandma went quiet again.

Then she asked the question that somehow made everything even funnier.

“Then WHY DOES SHE ANSWER HIM EVERY TIME?!”

I didn’t know whether to laugh or feel sorry for Grandpa.

“Because that’s what she’s programmed to do.”

Grandma gasped.

“So she’s obedient?”

“Basically.”

“And she listens to everything he says?”

“Well…”

I stopped myself.

That probably wasn’t helping.

Grandma suddenly sounded even more concerned.

“Does she live in the bedroom?”

“Grandma!”

“I’M JUST ASKING!”

I could hear Grandpa in the background.

“Alexa, turn off the lights!”

Grandma immediately whispered, “See?! There she is!”

I couldn’t hold it anymore.

I started laughing.

“Grandma, please don’t worry. Grandpa isn’t cheating. He’s just talking to Alexa.”

She remained silent for a moment.

Then she said, very seriously:

“Well, I still don’t trust her.”

4. FULL STORY — PART 3

The next morning, I called Grandma to make sure everything was okay.

She answered on the first ring.

“Is Grandpa there?”

“No,” she said.

“Why?”

“He’s outside.”

I breathed a sigh of relief.

“So everything is okay?”

Grandma hesitated.

“For now.”

I laughed.

“Grandma, you really don’t have anything to worry about.”

She sighed.

“I suppose you’re right.”

Then she lowered her voice.

“But I have been watching that Alexa.”

I smiled.

“Grandma, Alexa isn’t going anywhere.”

“That’s what worries me.”

Before I could respond, I heard Grandpa walk into the room.

“Alexa,” he called out, “what’s the weather today?”

Grandma immediately shouted:

“DON’T TALK TO HER!”

There was a brief silence.

Then Grandpa called my name.

“Why is your grandmother yelling at the speaker?”

I burst out laughing.

Grandma grabbed the phone.

“I’m warning you,” she said. “If that woman starts answering him at midnight again, I’m unplugging her.”

“Grandma, she’s not a woman!”

“I know that now.”

“Good.”

“But I still don’t like how quickly she responds to him.”

I laughed.

Grandma sighed.

“You know what? Maybe I should get one of those things too.”

“Absolutely.”

There was another pause.

Then Grandma said:

“But mine better be a man.”

5. ENDING

I hung up the phone laughing.

A few minutes later, my phone buzzed with a text from Grandma.

“I just ordered one.”

Then another message arrived.

“His name better not be Alexa.”

I couldn’t stop laughing.

Apparently, Grandpa wasn’t having an affair after all.

He just had a very helpful new “friend.”

And Grandma?

She was officially preparing to bring one home too.
